Technology
Officers use a variety of technologies to enhance their efforts. Each car is equipped with a laptop computer to enable almost the same information that an officer would have in the station. They can print documents to the police department, or on printers in the cars. They use electronic ticket writers to reduce the time required to issue a citation, decrease the time spent by court personnel to process tickets, and to capture more data more quickly during a stop, including photographs of the offender at the time of the violation.
The officers also use an internet-based records management and reporting application that is regional in scope to report offenses and incidents, allowing partner agencies to access each other's information about people who move between jurisdictions. This system also allows an officer to have access to records as long as he has an internet connection, so even if the police building was destroyed, essential functions could continue, thus maintaining our ability to service the public in a disaster.
